‘Satoshi Index’ is a daily series in which [Satoshi Note™, a crypto portfolio tracker](<https://satoshinote.io/?utm_source=tokenpost_com&utm_medium=article&utm_campaign=coin_positions_daily_en_20261024_18>), analyzes the current positions of top traders using on-chain data. Data refreshes hourly; figures reflect the aggregation time stated in the article. [Editor's note]

As of 3:31 p.m. KST on Oct. 24 (06:31 UTC), about 95% of the position notional held by the top 100 traders ranked on 24-hour performance is short. Long positions total about $140 million and short positions about $2.98 billion, a 4.5% long share. The figures combine the 24-hour top-100 accounts on four exchanges, Hyperliquid, Lighter, dYdX and Pacifica, summed by asset.

In this morning's edition, aggregated at 7:10 a.m. KST, the same 24-hour group held about $299 million long and $1.90 billion short, 86% short. Over roughly eight hours, short notional rose by $1.08 billion, or 57%, and long notional fell by $159 million, or 53%, taking the short share up by nine points. Short notional is back near the $3.02 billion of yesterday evening's edition. On Hyperliquid, prices over the 24 hours to the aggregation time were lower across the board: Bitcoin (BTC) down 1.5%, Ethereum (ETH) down 1.7%, Solana (SOL) down 2.7% and Hyperliquid (HYPE) down 3.7%, while Worldcoin (WLD) fell 14.4%, LIT 10.0%, NEAR 8.7% and Zcash (ZEC) 5.8%. Compared with this morning's price check, BTC and ETH are less than 0.5% lower, HYPE 1.3% lower, NEAR 2.5% lower and ZEC 1.1% lower.

The 7-day group holds about $255 million long and $3.21 billion short, 93% short, up four points from this morning's 88%. Short notional rose by $234 million and long notional fell by $134 million, or 34%.

The 30-day group holds about $328 million long and $3.37 billion short, 91% short, unchanged from this morning. This is the fourth edition in a row in which all three groups are more than 85% short. Unrealized gains grew in all three groups. The 24-hour group went from a gain of about $4 million to about $23 million, the 7-day group from about $6 million to about $43 million, and the 30-day group from about $12 million to about $34 million. With more than nine-tenths of the notional short, this lines up with the main assets trading lower than this morning at the time of the check. Even so, HYPE shorts still carry the largest loss in the 7-day and 30-day groups, about $25.5 million and $37.3 million, and the largest gain in all three groups is in ZEC, about $13.0 million, $21.3 million and $11.2 million.

For Bitcoin (BTC), the 24-hour group holds 54 long and 174 short accounts, 24% long by headcount. This morning it was 105 long and 104 short, an even split; long accounts fell by 51 and short accounts rose by 70, the largest fall in the headcount long ratio among the top-20 assets in the 24-hour group. By notional it holds about $15 million long and $967 million short, 98% short, with short notional up $354 million from $613 million. BTC shows the largest unrealized loss in the 24-hour group, about $17.6 million. The 7-day group holds 78 long and 155 short accounts (33% long by headcount, from 48%), about $75 million long and $1.03 billion short, 93% short. The 30-day group holds 81 long and 156 short (34% long by headcount, unchanged), 94% short. BTC trades at about $80,660 on Hyperliquid.

For Ethereum (ETH), the 24-hour group holds 70 long and 144 short accounts, 33% long by headcount. This morning long accounts outnumbered short accounts, 98 to 83; long accounts fell by 28 and short accounts rose by 61. By notional it holds about $44 million long and $818 million short, 95% short, with short notional nearly doubling from $418 million. The 7-day group holds 78 long and 124 short, about $35 million long and $862 million short, 96% short, and the 30-day group 70 long and 139 short, 91% short. ETH's unrealized result is close to flat in all three groups: a loss of about $0.2 million in the 24-hour group, a gain of about $2.3 million in the 7-day group and a gain of about $0.3 million in the 30-day group.

The largest change in the headcount long ratio within the 7-day group since this morning came in BTC (48% to 33% long), followed by [Zcash (ZEC)](<https://satoshinote.io/traders/coins/zec?window=week&utm_source=tokenpost_com&utm_medium=article&utm_campaign=coin_positions_daily_en_20261024_18>). In the 7-day group ZEC went from 50 long and 64 short accounts (44% long by headcount) to 34 long and 78 short (30%); long accounts fell by 16 and short accounts rose by 14. Long notional shrank to about one-fifth, from $36.2 million to $7.2 million, while short notional rose from about $148 million to $171 million, taking the long share from 20% to 4%. This morning ZEC had the second-highest long share by notional in the 7-day group after LIT (49%); it now carries a short tilt similar to BTC and ETH. ZEC shorts show the largest unrealized gain in the 7-day group, about $21.3 million, and also in the 24-hour group (31 long and 94 short accounts, 99% short), about $13.0 million. ZEC fell 5.8% over 24 hours to about $1,163 on Hyperliquid.

In the 7-day group XRP went from 34 long and 33 short accounts (51% long by headcount) this morning to 31 long and 47 short (40%), so the one asset in the 7-day group with more long than short accounts this morning is gone. By notional it holds about $3.0 million long and $63 million short, 96% short, with an unrealized gain of about $8.1 million. In the 24-hour group XRP's headcount long ratio also fell, from 53% to 34%. Among the top-20 assets by notional, no asset leans long by notional in any of the three windows. BNB, the only long-leaning asset in the 24-hour group this morning, went from 57% to 34% long and dropped to 21st. By headcount, the assets with more long than short accounts this morning, ETH, XRP and BTC in the 24-hour group and XRP in the 7-day group, have all gone, leaving only Monero (XMR, 34 long and 27 short) in the 30-day group. XMR is also the only asset in the 7-day top 20 whose headcount long ratio rose, from 36% to 41%.

An increase of 70 short accounts in BTC and 61 in ETH in the 24-hour group, and more than $1 billion more short notional, does not mean that many accounts opened new shorts. The ranking re-selects its top 100 by trailing 24-hour performance at every aggregation, so eight hours later many of the accounts that made this morning's top 100 may have been replaced by others. On a day when prices fall, accounts already holding shorts are more likely to rank near the top on performance, which can raise the short share on its own. How much the two groups overlap, and whether any single account changed direction, cannot be known without fill records, which were not checked.

A few large positions can also sway the notional shares; XMR in the 30-day group has more long than short accounts yet is 94% short by notional. Holdings on other exchanges or in spot are not aggregated, so hedging cannot be ruled out. Current positions alone do not establish an individual trader's overall strategy or the direction of the market.
