> Class A closed at $820,500 and Class B at $546.97 on Oct. 22, topping the prior highs set before then-CEO Warren Buffett said he would recommend Greg Abel as CEO.

Berkshire Hathaway’s Class A and Class B shares closed at all-time highs Oct. 22, surpassing levels set before then-CEO Warren Buffett said he would recommend Greg Abel for the top job.

At the 4 p.m. ET close (20:00 UTC) Oct. 22, Class A finished at $820,500 and Class B at $546.97. Both prices set closing records. Their previous highs, reached May 2, 2025, were $809,350 for Class A and $539.80 for Class B. The latest finishes topped those marks by $11,150 and $7.17, respectively. Berkshire’s [May 2025 closing records](<https://www.tokenpost.com/news/investing/34081>) came before Buffett’s recommendation announcement.

The shares declined in the next session. On Friday, Oct. 23, Class A closed at $813,595, down 0.84%, and Class B finished at $542.19, down 0.87%. Both remained above their May 2025 closing highs.

At a question-and-answer session before Berkshire’s May 3, 2025, annual meeting, Buffett said he would recommend Abel as CEO. The board voted unanimously the next day to appoint Abel, effective Jan. 1, 2026. Abel took over as CEO on that date.

The transition news coincided with Berkshire’s first-quarter 2025 results. Operating earnings were $9.641 billion, down from $11.222 billion a year earlier. The timing does not establish how much the leadership news or earnings affected the shares.

The Oct. 22 record close followed an [earlier update on Class B’s intraday high](<https://www.tokenpost.com/news/investing/37440>), which tracked a session peak rather than a closing price.

On Sept. 18, Berkshire named Warren Buffett chairman emeritus and elected Howard G. Buffett chairman. Warren Buffett remained a director. In a shareholder letter that day, Warren Buffett wrote, “The company is in excellent hands.”

At June 30, Berkshire had $359.2 billion in cash, cash equivalents and U.S. Treasury bills held by its insurance and other businesses, net of payables for unsettled purchases. It repurchased $4.8 billion of stock in the first half of 2026, most of it during the second quarter. Berkshire’s businesses span insurance, utilities and energy, freight rail, manufacturing, services and retailing.
