> A third carrier strike group and 10,000 additional sailors and Marines are heading toward the Persian Gulf; the timing of any renewed strikes is uncertain.

The United States is reinforcing forces near Iran ahead of a possible resumption of strikes after the Nov. 3 midterm elections, raising risks for oil and broader markets.

President Trump has repeatedly suggested U.S. forces could resume attacks after the vote. A third carrier strike group and an additional 10,000 sailors and Marines have been sent toward the Persian Gulf, giving commanders more military options. The timing remains uncertain.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth made an unannounced visit to Israel this week and met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Israel holds an election Tuesday, Oct. 27, days before the U.S. midterms.

The State Department has ordered some diplomatic personnel and family members to leave Saudi Arabia after Iran-backed Houthi forces expanded the conflict there and attacked airports and energy facilities.

Recent diplomatic efforts to end the conflict have made no progress. Brent crude has risen more than 80% this year amid disruptions to Persian Gulf energy transport, leaving markets exposed to further uncertainty if fighting resumes.
