> A one-hour snapshot at 8:52 p.m. ET Sunday, Oct. 25, recorded 2,619 transactions per second for Internet Computer and 2,045 for Solana.

Internet Computer (ICP) had a higher one-hour transaction rate than Solana (SOL) in an Oct. 25 snapshot, but the reading does not show whether that activity drove purchases of ICP.

At 8:52 p.m. ET Sunday, Oct. 25 (12:52 a.m. UTC Oct. 26), Internet Computer recorded 2,619 transactions per second over the hour, compared with 2,045 for Solana. The figures describe a short period of network activity and do not measure ICP purchases, burns or lasting changes in use.

The count included successful and failed transactions while excluding internal and system transactions. Transaction definitions can vary between measurements, so throughput figures depend in part on what each count includes. The snapshot also does not identify how many distinct users were behind the activity.

Internet Computer apps use cycles to pay for computation and storage. Developers can fund canisters with cycles in advance, allowing users to interact with apps without holding ICP. As a result, transactions during the measured hour do not necessarily correspond to ICP purchases during that same period.

ICP is burned when converted into cycles. Canisters consume cycles, which cannot be converted back into ICP. The network also mints ICP for node-provider and governance rewards, so the net supply effect depends on the balance between burns and new issuance.

The snapshot does not include cycle purchases, ICP burned, new issuance or net supply change. It also does not explain a move in ICP’s price. The relationship between network activity and token demand was explored in [earlier coverage](<https://www.tokenpost.com/news/investing/37505>).
