> Outstanding positions have risen 192% since June. Centralized exchanges hold 71% of the total.

Open interest in perpetual contracts tied to stocks, precious metals and equity indexes is nearing $20 billion, setting a record as traditional-asset derivatives expand across crypto trading venues.

Outstanding positions have climbed 192% since June. Open interest measures contracts that remain open, so the increase describes the value of those positions rather than trading volume or a change in the price of an underlying asset.

Centralized exchanges account for 71% of total open interest and lead in contracts tied to stocks and precious metals. Decentralized exchanges hold the remaining 29% and lead in equity index derivatives.

The overall exchange split does not describe the share held by either type of venue within each contract category. It shows where outstanding positions are concentrated across the market as a whole.

RWA perpetual open interest [reached a third-quarter record of $12.6 billion](<https://www.tokenpost.com/news/investing/32609>). The latest figures put open interest near $20 billion and show that the balance between centralized and decentralized venues varies by underlying market.
