Bank of America expects systematic strategies to be net sellers of equities in the coming week across market scenarios, including a flat market, pointing to possible selling pressure in U.S. stocks.

The bank’s scenario estimates put net equity selling at $48 billion in a flat market and $79 billion in a decline, with commodity trading advisers (CTAs) accounting for $50 billion of the downside-case amount. In a strong rally, the estimate is about $1 billion in outflows.

The reported sell thresholds are 0.5% below prevailing levels for S&P 500 futures, 0.2% lower for Nasdaq-100 futures and 3% lower for Russell 2000 futures.
