> Rick Kanda said diversification demand and uncertainty may support gold over time, while higher-rate expectations posed a near-term risk before the Fed’s Oct. 28 decision.

Rick Kanda, managing director at The Gold Bullion Company, expects gold to recover over the longer term, saying diversification demand may support the metal even if the Fed stays hawkish.

In comments made before the Fed’s Oct. 28 policy decision, Kanda said the possibility of a December rate increase could weigh on gold, while a more dovish outlook could support prices. Higher rates can make interest-bearing assets more attractive than gold, which generates no income.

Kanda said gold’s longer-term outlook also depends on geopolitical uncertainty, central bank demand and investor confidence. He expects demand for gold as a portfolio diversification tool and a way to protect against uncertainty to support prices over time, even if the dollar strengthens.

The comments follow TokenPost’s earlier coverage of [gold near a three-month low and liquidity risks](<https://www.tokenpost.com/news/investing/39153>), when spot gold traded around $4,020 an ounce on Oct. 23.
