> The exchange said a DevOps engineer’s laptop may have enabled unauthorized withdrawals, and deposits have resumed.

XRP fell with the broader crypto market as Binance investigated unauthorized withdrawal transactions from several hot wallets, a security incident that led the exchange to halt deposits and withdrawals.

Binance’s initial findings pointed to a DevOps engineer’s laptop as a possible entry point. The company said access to a service container may have enabled the transactions, while its early review found no evidence of a private-key leak.

Deposits have resumed, and Binance expects withdrawals to return within 48 hours. The exchange said it is coordinating with law enforcement and blockchain partners as its review continues.

Changpeng Zhao, Binance co-founder and former CEO, posted, “User funds are safe!” He said he expects customer balances to be covered and thanked Tether and Circle for freezing about $971 million in USDT and $823 million in USDC. Zhao said he no longer manages Binance.com but remains a shareholder.

Binance plans to publish an updated proof of reserves after completing its remediation work.
