Intel’s five-year credit default swap (CDS) spread reached 123.5 basis points on Oct. 30.

A CDS transfers credit exposure between parties. Its spread measures the cost of protection and is quoted in basis points; one basis point equals one-hundredth of a percentage point. A wider spread means protection costs more, but does not establish that a borrower will default.
