> Intel forecast fourth-quarter revenue of $15 billion to $16 billion and a sequential decline of more than 20% in its client-computing segment.

Intel shares plunged 28.6% Friday, closing at $65.76, after the chipmaker’s fourth-quarter outlook fell short of expectations and intensified concerns about PC demand and foundry execution.

Intel forecast fourth-quarter revenue of $15 billion to $16 billion and adjusted earnings of 25 cents per share. Analysts had expected $17.1 billion in revenue and 43 cents per share. Intel’s third-quarter results beat expectations, but the weaker outlook weighed on the stock.

CFO David Zinsner projected client-computing revenue, which includes PCs, would decline more than 20% sequentially in the fourth quarter as computer makers work through inventory. CEO 陳立武 said the PC correction accelerated over the past two months and that improvement depended on memory supply and pricing returning to normal.

Investors also scrutinized Intel’s foundry business, which makes chips for outside customers. Bank of America analyst Vivek Arya downgraded the stock to Neutral from Buy, saying the company had not shown enough progress with external foundry customers. Bernstein analyst Stacy Rasgon said Intel had too much capacity for PC chips and too little for servers.

陳立武 said several potential customers for Intel’s 14A manufacturing process could be ready to make announcements in the next two quarters.
