U.S. manufacturing activity expanded for a 10th consecutive month in October, as the Institute for Supply Management’s (ISM) headline index rose to 55.5% ahead of the midterm elections and jobs report.

The Manufacturing PMI increased 1 percentage point from September’s 54.5%. The October reading was released at 10 a.m. ET (1500 UTC) Monday, Nov. 2.

The PMI adds a new economic reading to a week of events covered in TokenPost’s [earnings and midterm calendar](<https://www.tokenpost.com/news/investing/45214>). The midterm elections are Tuesday, Nov. 3, and the October Employment Situation is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 6, at 8:30 a.m. ET (1330 UTC). September payrolls rose by 29,000, while unemployment was 4.2%.

The Federal Open Market Committee held its federal funds target range at 3.75% to 4% on Oct. 28. Cook and Hammack were the two dissenters, each preferring a 25-basis-point increase.
