U.S. drivers paid an average of $4.15 for a gallon of regular gasoline on Tuesday, Nov. 3, putting the national price above every Election Day level recorded since 2000.

The figure was 35 cents higher than the previous Election Day high, set at $3.80 in 2022. On the 2024 election day, the national average was $3.10, more than $1 below this year’s price.

Pump prices had eased in recent days and weeks, but the nationwide average remained elevated. In inflation-adjusted terms, the election-day average in 2012 exceeded $5 per gallon, above Tuesday’s nominal price.
