> Bitcoin’s U.S. spot discount narrowed, but Coinbase Prime volume fell. CME leveraged funds held more shorts than longs, while equity volatility eased and the dollar strengthened.

U.S. Bitcoin demand showed mixed signs of recovery as the spot-market discount narrowed while trading volume on Coinbase Prime fell.

The smaller discount suggested an improvement in relative U.S. demand, but weaker institutional trading activity left limited evidence of a broader buying recovery.

The Coinbase premium, which compares Coinbase and Binance prices, moved from -0.24% on October 30 to -0.20% on October 31 and -0.16% on November 1. It widened to -0.18% on November 2 before narrowing to -0.15% on November 3. The live reading was -0.11% at 13:05 UTC on November 4.

A positive premium means Bitcoin trades at a higher price on Coinbase than on Binance; a negative reading indicates a discount. The narrower discount suggested that relative weakness in U.S. buying had eased. However, all the supplied daily readings remained negative, leaving U.S. buying leadership unconfirmed.

Coinbase Prime trading volume totaled 6,305.39 BTC on November 3, down from 7,794.75 BTC on November 2. Valued at the November 3 closing price, that turnover amounted to approximately $487.64 million.

Trading volume on the institutional platform provides a measure of participation. Lower turnover indicates reduced activity, but it includes both buying and selling and does not establish that institutions were net sellers. It therefore offers limited support for interpreting the narrower spot discount as a recovery driven by institutional buying.

CFTC disclosures showed leveraged funds held 5,887 long contracts and 9,866 short contracts in CME Bitcoin futures as of October 27. Short positions exceeded longs, although this weekly snapshot predates the latest spot and volume readings.

The VIX closed at 20.83 on November 3, down 0.32 points from 21.15 on November 2.

The decline in the equity volatility gauge suggested some easing in market anxiety. That provided a more supportive backdrop for risk appetite, although the move alone does not establish stronger demand for Bitcoin.

The dollar index closed at 101.87 on November 3, up 0.12 points from 101.75 on November 2. The U.S. 10-year Treasury yield stood at 4.91% as of November 2. The firmer dollar and the level of yields remained constraints on the backdrop for risk assets.

Taken together, the indicators pointed to caution in U.S. Bitcoin demand. A sustained narrowing of the spot discount, renewed institutional trading activity and further easing in equity volatility would provide clearer evidence of improving market conditions.

[Editor's note] Wall Street liquidity radar tracks U.S. Bitcoin sentiment through four indicators: CME leveraged-fund positioning, the Coinbase premium, the VIX and Coinbase Prime trading volume. Together, they provide context on futures positioning, relative spot demand, equity-market uncertainty and institutional participation.
