> The index had been down 6.8% after an early selloff; SK hynix and Samsung Electronics fell 7.99% and 7.3% in early trading.

South Korea’s KOSPI narrowed its decline to less than 4% after trading resumed, recovering from an earlier 6.8% drop.

The benchmark’s drop had reached 6.8% earlier in the session. Trading paused after the index triggered a circuit breaker, then resumed with losses still steep. The decline later narrowed further, leaving the KOSPI down less than 4% in the latest market reading.

SK hynix shares were down 7.99% and Samsung Electronics fell 7.3% during the early selloff. Both companies are major memory-chip makers and significant weights in the KOSPI, linking the benchmark’s swings to semiconductor shares.

The KOSPI has narrowed losses after similar sharp drops on July 29, Aug. 6 and Oct. 19, giving the latest recovery precedents earlier this year. The move comes amid a global selloff in AI-linked chip stocks, making South Korea’s market action relevant to broader risk sentiment.
