> Bitcoin options expiring November 9 held $539.22 million in open interest, heavily concentrated in calls. Across expiries, puts slightly led 24-hour trading with a put/call ratio of 1.06.

Bitcoin options expiring on November 9 showed a heavy concentration of call open interest, while puts held a slight lead in trading across expiries over the past 24 hours.

The positioning showed a contrast between call-heavy outstanding contracts for November 9 and greater put activity in the broader market’s latest trading.

As of November 6, total open interest for the November 9 expiry stood at 7,029 contracts, with a notional value of approximately $539.22 million.

Call open interest totaled 6,503 contracts, compared with 526 puts, giving a put/call ratio of 0.08.

The ratio showed that calls substantially outnumbered puts for that expiry. Open interest measures outstanding positions, however, and does not alone establish the direction of new buying.

The maximum pain price—the level at which option buyers would incur the greatest aggregate losses at expiry—was $77,000.

For the November 9 expiry, the $78,000 call held the largest open interest, followed by the $82,000 and $80,000 calls. The concentration placed the leading outstanding positions at strikes above the underlying price of $76,711.72.

Across all expiries, the $80,000 call had the largest open interest, followed by the $100,000 call and the $60,000 put. The leading contracts therefore included positions at both higher and lower strikes.

The most actively traded contracts across expiries were predominantly puts.

Over the past 24 hours, put volume totaled 29,260 contracts, compared with 27,530 calls. The volume-based put/call ratio was 1.06, showing a modest lead for puts despite the call-heavy open interest in the November 9 expiry.

Most actively traded options $74,000 put (November 27), $69,000 put (November 27), $75,000 put (November 27), $78,000 call (November 9) and $73,000 put (November 27).

Expiries with concentrated open interest December 25 (60% calls), November 27 (54% calls) and March 26 (61% calls). Most actively traded expiries November 27 (41% calls), November 13 (29% calls) and November 9 (92% calls).

Bitcoin traded at $76,202.30, down 4.51% over 24 hours.

[Editor’s note] Options give holders the right to buy or sell an underlying asset at a predetermined price. Calls provide the right to buy, while puts provide the right to sell. They can be used to take positions on price movements or hedge existing exposure. Open interest is the total number of outstanding contracts.
