Citadel founder and CEO Ken Griffin said investors are “almost certainly” in an artificial intelligence bubble, raising questions about whether companies will get enough value from AI to justify their spending.

Griffin made the remarks at the Citadel Securities Future of Global Markets conference in New York on Oct. 20. His warning focused on the financial case for AI investment.

In a separate conversation recorded June 2, Griffin described a research task at Citadel that AI had sped up. He said a system at the firm reproduced and tested a finance research paper in an average of two to three hours per paper. Staff had taken roughly six to eight weeks per paper, he said.

Griffin said the system had not reduced Citadel’s headcount. His figures describe one workflow at the firm; they do not establish whether AI spending is paying off across other companies.

In that June conversation, Griffin also said AI could help new businesses challenge established firms. He predicted a “golden age of entrepreneurial activity,” reflecting his view that the technology could expand what businesses are able to do.

The June example helps explain how Griffin can see practical value in AI while questioning the returns on investments tied to it. His October remarks add to [Wall Street’s debate over AI bubble risks](<https://www.tokenpost.com/news/investing/34586>), which has focused on the gap between the technology’s potential and the returns investors expect.
