> Schwartz described the next two years as a period when institutional adoption could lay groundwork for mass retail use, not a deadline for that adoption.

Ripple CTO Emeritus David Schwartz said institutional adoption could lay groundwork for mass retail blockchain use over the next two years, while not saying broader adoption would arrive within that period.

“I don't think institutional adoption is the end,” Schwartz wrote. “I think it's going to lay the groundwork over the next two years for mass retail adoption.”

Schwartz responded after crypto commentator Crypto Dyl News argued that XRP’s purpose was institutional adoption rather than retail adoption. Schwartz’s reply addressed blockchain use broadly and did not give a date for mass retail adoption.

At Ripple Swell 2026 in New York, held Tuesday through Thursday, Oct. 27-29, Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse described a prospective institutional role for XRP, while Schwartz discussed blockchain’s potential use in everyday financial activity. Schwartz’s remarks set out an adoption outlook, not a report of completed adoption or a specific milestone.
