The Bank of Russia wants illegal cryptocurrency exchanges and related gray areas to disappear by July 1, 2027.

Cryptocurrency exchanges not included in the Bank of Russia’s registry may continue operating until July 1, 2027. The Bank of Russia wants illegal exchanges and related gray areas to disappear by that date.

The statement follows legislation signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin on Aug. 4, 2026. The law recognizes digital currency as property and assigns market oversight to the Bank of Russia.

The law’s main provisions took effect Sept. 1, 2026. Exchanges operating outside the central bank’s registry have until July 1, 2027, before the Bank of Russia wants illegal exchanges and related gray areas to disappear.
