President Donald Trump rejected Iran’s proposed seven-day ceasefire framework and told advisers he expects U.S. bombing operations could resume after the November midterm elections, raising the risk of renewed volatility across oil and digital-asset markets.

Iran’s proposal would have required the United States to lift its blockade of Iranian ports. In return, Tehran would reopen the Strait of Hormuz and restart nuclear negotiations.

Trump remains skeptical that Iran would meet his demands. The scale of any possible bombing campaign has not been determined, and he does not want to resume a large operation in part because U.S. ammunition stocks are declining and must be reserved for other contingencies.

Washington and Tehran continue negotiating through mediators, including over Iran’s nuclear program. A U.S.-led effort to allow tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz despite Iranian threats has reduced the immediate pressure for an agreement, while the administration has told Iran and mediators that it is not prepared to lift the maritime blockade.
