> The no-action letter removes a regulatory obstacle to Robinhood’s planned shareholder voting program for retail investors holding Tesla stock.

The Securities and Exchange Commission issued a no-action letter to Tesla on Sept. 29, clearing a regulatory obstacle for Robinhood’s planned retail shareholder voting program.

The letter could enable Robinhood to pursue a system designed to help individual investors participate in corporate votes involving companies whose shares they hold. Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev said shareholders should have easier access to voting when millions of people own stock in the same public company.

Robinhood already uses in-app messages, retail voting tools and earnings-related question-and-answer programs to connect companies with individual shareholders. The company plans to introduce additional features aimed at expanding that engagement.

The letter involving Tesla provides a regulatory opening for Robinhood’s voting plan.
