President Donald Trump and executives from major technology companies signed a voluntary frontier artificial intelligence safety agreement Tuesday, establishing industry controls that could influence future U.S. policy for advanced AI systems.

The Joint Commitment on Frontier Responsibilities calls on companies developing frontier AI models to strengthen internal controls, arrange independent external audits and create board committees to oversee audit results. The measures address cybersecurity and loss-of-control risks, including models unexpectedly accessing or compromising technology systems.

The pledge is described as morally binding but is not a legally enforceable regulation. It leaves open the possibility that its commitments could later be incorporated into laws or formal regulatory frameworks.

Participants included Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, OpenAI President Greg Brockman, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and xAI CEO Elon Musk.

Trump also signed an executive order directing federal documents to use “Super Intelligence,” or SI, in place of “Artificial Intelligence,” or AI. The administration said the new term better reflects the potential of rapidly advancing systems. The White House meeting also covered industry development and data-center construction.
