# Trump Weighs Former SEC Chair Jay Clayton for AI Czar Role

President Donald Trump is considering former Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Jay Clayton for a new artificial-intelligence czar role, putting Clayton’s record in the Ripple case back in focus for XRP markets.

Trump said he had “somebody in mind” for the position and called Clayton “a good man” and “a good idea.” He said he wanted to select the czar within three or four days, but the role’s responsibilities have not been defined.

XRP was reported at $1.49 on Sept. 30, down 0.9%.

The SEC filed its lawsuit against Ripple, Bradley Garlinghouse and Christian Larsen on Dec. 22, 2020. The agency alleged that Ripple and the two executives raised more than $1.3 billion through an unregistered digital-asset securities offering.

Trump’s comments concerned a potential AI policy position, not a confirmed cryptocurrency appointment. Clayton’s selection has not been finalized, and Trump has not said the role would direct crypto policy.
