Australia’s securities regulator plans to begin overseeing digital-asset and tokenized-asset custody platforms in April 2027, expanding regulatory attention on infrastructure that safeguards digital assets.

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) will monitor market integrity and risk management while preparing the framework.

ASIC also plans to release consultation papers, guidance and draft rules related to the framework. The oversight would apply to custody platforms handling both digital assets and tokenized assets.

The framework is scheduled to start in April 2027.
