> The minutes are due Wednesday at 2 p.m. ET (18:00 UTC), with markets focused on financial conditions, real interest rates and inflation.

The Federal Reserve’s September meeting minutes will be released Wednesday at 2 p.m. ET (18:00 UTC), offering markets a closer look at whether the central bank’s 25-basis-point rate hike was a one-time adjustment or the beginning of further tightening.

Investors will focus on how Fed officials assessed financial conditions, the level of real interest rates and the pace of inflation. Those discussions could help define how restrictive policymakers believe current monetary policy is.

U.S. financial conditions have continued to ease since fall 2022 and remain toward the looser side of their historical range. High-yield credit spreads also remain near historically low levels, conditions that may reduce the economy’s effective borrowing restraints.

August personal consumption expenditures inflation rose 3.4% year over year, while core PCE inflation increased 3.0%. With the effective federal funds rate at about 3.9%, the real rate is roughly 0.5% against headline inflation and 0.9% against core inflation.

The minutes will provide the next detailed record of officials’ views after the September rate decision, with particular attention on whether inflation and financial conditions warrant additional policy tightening.
