Greece is preparing legislation that would impose a 10% tax on cryptocurrency capital gains, creating a new tax framework for digital-asset profits in the country.

The draft bill would exempt the first €500 of an individual's annual cryptocurrency capital gains. Gains above that threshold would be subject to the proposed 10% rate.

The measure has entered public consultation and is expected to be submitted to Parliament in November. Greece currently lacks a comprehensive cryptocurrency tax framework.

The government has not projected how much revenue the tax could generate. Estimating the market has been difficult because most Greek investors use overseas cryptocurrency platforms.
