The U.S. government transferred 9,261 Bitcoin (BTC) worth about $770 million to Coinbase Prime over the past two days, moving a large cache of seized assets into institutional custody.

The transfer included 2,456 BTC from previously unknown holdings that were sent to a government seizure address on Coinbase Prime. Those coins may represent newly identified law enforcement seizures.

About half of the transferred Bitcoin came from assets recovered from the Bitfinex hack, while another portion was tied to Binance seizures. The movements add to a series of transfers involving cryptocurrency seized from earlier exploits.

Coinbase Prime has served as a custody provider for the U.S. Marshals Service’s seized digital assets since 2024. The transfer does not establish that the Bitcoin was sold.

A March 2025 executive order directed seized Bitcoin to remain in government custody and become part of the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve rather than be sold.
