A U.S. House committee raised data-security concerns about Webull’s ties to China, prompting the brokerage to dispute the findings and sending its shares down 19% to $5.89.

The 23-page report questioned Webull’s ownership structure, technology operations, infrastructure and data-transfer practices. The committee said those connections could expose U.S. investors to data-security risks.

Webull disputed the report, saying it contains significant inaccuracies and conclusions without adequate support. A company spokesperson also said the committee had not contacted Webull for more than 20 months before releasing its findings.

Webull said its U.S. operations are managed from its global headquarters in Florida and an office in New York. The company said U.S. customer data is stored inside the United States and that access to sensitive information is controlled by U.S. personnel.

The dispute puts scrutiny on the brokerage’s handling of customer information as it serves U.S. investors and offers cryptocurrency trading services.
