South Korea plans more frequent cybersecurity testing across its financial sector after 16 incidents exposed about 100,000 pieces of customer data and a separate review flagged gaps at 130 of 555 firms.

The Financial Services Commission (FSC), South Korea’s financial regulator, plans to make vulnerability testing more frequent and regular. It is also considering expanding cybersecurity management support for small and midsize firms to help them address risks driven by artificial intelligence.

The exposed information included names, contact details, resident registration numbers and email addresses. No reported incident involved exposed account passwords or credit card numbers.

The FSC is examining whether the incidents were connected, involved the same attackers or used artificial intelligence. Earlier [AI-assisted attacks on South Korean banks](<https://www.tokenpost.com/news/technology/27941>) involved the ARTEX tool.
