Russia has barred direct peer-to-peer (P2P) cryptocurrency trading and retail transfers to self-custody wallets under an update to its national crypto rules, restricting two parts of crypto activity. The P2P measure covers trades conducted directly between users, while the wallet restriction covers retail transfers to wallets whose holders retain control of their assets.

Bank of Russia announced the changes to comprehensive crypto regulations President Vladimir Putin signed into law in August. The update connects the two restrictions to the broader national framework for crypto rules.

Crypto traders have a grace period until July to adjust to the restrictions. The transition period gives traders time to respond to the limits. Traders have until July under the grace period, setting the next deadline for activity covered by the update.

Together, the measures address two distinct crypto actions: making direct trades and transferring assets into self-custody wallets. Both restrictions are part of the update announced by Russia's central bank.
