> The regulators exchanged views on public and private markets, asset management and innovation priorities. Their next dialogue is planned for Washington in spring 2027.

The SEC and the Financial Services Agency of Japan (FSA) discussed market developments and regulatory matters, including innovation priorities, in Tokyo on Oct. 19 as they continued cooperation on cross-border financial issues.

The meeting was the autumn session of the SEC-FSA Financial Regulatory Dialogue. Participants exchanged views on developments in public and private markets and asset management. They also discussed recent market developments and the strategic priorities of both agencies.

SEC Commissioner Mark T. Uyeda led the SEC side, while FSA Vice Minister for International Affairs MIYOSHI Toshiyuki led the Japanese agency’s side. Uyeda described the relationship between the regulators as “one of the SEC’s most successful and longstanding relationships.”

The dialogue gives the U.S. and Japanese regulators a forum to coordinate on financial issues that cross national borders. The agencies plan to hold their next session in Washington, D.C., in spring 2027.
