> The concerns included sexual content featuring minors, age-restricted material and exposure to suicide-related content. TikTok cited its teen safety settings in response.

In depositions filed in March 2026, TikTok employees said they warned leaders about child-safety risks, including sexual content featuring minors, as the company faces hundreds of consolidated federal lawsuits.

Employees said minors appeared in sexual content available for purchase on the platform, raising concern that TikTok could earn revenue from potentially illegal activity. They also described ways underage users could get around age restrictions and hide their activity from parents. Employees said they were frustrated with executives’ response to concerns about sexual exploitation and young users’ exposure to suicide-related content.

Separately, TikTok did not conduct surveys to determine users’ ages over concern that it might have to share the results with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

A TikTok spokesperson disputed the accounts. “These citations and claims are clearly cherry-picked at the behest of trial lawyers,” the spokesperson said, adding that the claims mischaracterized the company’s record and platform features. TikTok said it had invested billions of dollars in Trust & Safety and rolled out more than 50 preset safety, privacy and security settings for teens. One of those tools, Family Pairing, helps parents and guardians customize teens’ experience.

TikTok is one of four platforms facing hundreds of lawsuits consolidated in federal court. The cases also name Meta, Google and Snap. The lawsuits allege the platforms harm minors and that the companies failed to disclose known risks to young users. TikTok has settled several cases before trial.
