> The application also targets other cryptocurrencies and financial assets. A separate London case has left ownership claims to the Bitcoin unresolved.

Chinese prosecutors are seeking to confiscate 61,896.41552945 Bitcoin (BTC) seized by British authorities, with a Tianjin court giving interested parties six months to participate before it hears the application.

Tianjin No. 2 Intermediate People’s Court accepted the application on Sept. 28 and published a notice Oct. 13. The court will hear the matter after the six-month period, but has not set a hearing date. Accepting the application does not confiscate the assets or settle ownership. The court’s move follows [an earlier report on the Tianjin confiscation bid](<https://www.tokenpost.com/news/regulation/35888>).

The request also covers 72,745.79502 Bitcoin Cash (BCH), 72,745.78555 Bitcoin Gold (BTG), 72,745.7845 Bitcoin SV (BSV), 3,605,989.9995 XRP and 70,081,208.62553222 Dogecoin (DOGE). British authorities converted the Dogecoin and placed it in an interest-bearing account. Other assets listed include cash, jewelry, bank balances and investments. The court has not assigned a dollar value to the assets.

Victims may apply to participate through a WeChat mini program. People who do not participate may still receive repayments from recovered assets. Prosecutors are seeking recovery and confiscation of the assets after amounts due to victims are returned.

A separate case in London concerns investors’ claims to the same Bitcoin. On Oct. 12, the UK High Court ruled that Chinese law governs the rights underlying those claims, while UK law governs the court procedure. The ruling did not determine who owns the coins or how much claimants may recover. Mr. Justice Turner wrote, “No evidence has yet been adduced either as to the content of Chinese law or as to the precise evidential basis upon which each claim may eventually be founded.”

Prosecutors allege Zhimin Qian controlled Tianjin Lantian Gerui Electronic Technology Co. Ltd. and sold fraudulent investment products from April 2014 to August 2017. They allege the scheme raised more than 40.378 billion yuan and caused losses of about 19.977 billion yuan among more than 102,000 participants. Qian was sentenced in the UK to 11 years and eight months in prison for money-laundering offenses.
