Twenty-two companies, including Microsoft, Alphabet and Goldman Sachs, have opted out of a proposed OKX and ICE tokenized-stock project, sharpening issuer resistance to a planned 63-stock offering.

The project involves crypto exchange OKX and Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), the parent of the New York Stock Exchange. The companies acted after receiving notice that their shares could be offered as tokens on crypto platforms.

A full-page paid ad funded by CSLF ran in a weekend business section Oct. 24-25. It urged public-company CEOs to submit written objections within 30 days of receiving notice.

The ad warned that token prices could diverge from shares on regulated exchanges, blockchain addresses could make it harder to identify shareholders, and token trading could weaken companies’ ability to raise capital through share offerings.

It also cited cyber theft, market manipulation and gaps in anti-money-laundering and customer-verification controls as risks.

The ad said companies that did not opt out within the 30-day period could face legal liability if tokens lost their peg to the underlying shares or the project failed. The objection period runs for 30 days after a company receives notice.
