U.S. and international authorities seized Virtualine.net in a cybercrime probe, targeting a hosting service that prosecutors allege accepted Bitcoin (BTC) payments and laundered proceeds from criminal customers.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia and the FBI Washington Field Office announced the seizure on Oct. 27. The operation involved Germany’s Polizei Hessen, the Netherlands’ Politie Midden-Nederland and the U.K.’s National Crime Agency.

Prosecutors allege Virtualine, which also used the names Secury, Massgod, Spamhouse, Lanedo and Omegatech, supplied hosting for criminal customers. They say the provider accepted Bitcoin through unhosted wallet addresses and moved some funds to obscure their origin. Prosecutors also allege Virtualine hosted a criminal forum that sold access to images of minors and adults and promoted a service to break into victims’ online accounts.

“Bulletproof hosting” refers to providers that deliberately ignore abuse complaints and law-enforcement requests. Virtualine offered server hosting.
