> Eligible venues must qualify as designated contract markets and register with the SEC as national securities exchanges.

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission cleared perpetual futures tied to individual U.S. stocks for immediate listing on qualifying U.S. exchanges, bringing the products within its regulatory framework, CFTC Chair Michael S. Selig said Tuesday.

The approval allows these contracts to be listed on a CFTC-registered exchange for the first time. It takes effect immediately and applies to venues that meet requirements across the derivatives and securities markets.

Each venue must be a designated contract market (DCM) permitted to trade security futures products and must also register with the Securities and Exchange Commission as a national securities exchange through a notice filing. Both conditions must be met before a venue lists the contracts.

Selig said the change lets U.S. investors trade perpetual contracts under CFTC oversight without relying on offshore platforms. The structure is based on the Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000 and a memorandum of understanding between the CFTC and SEC.
