Rep. Bill Huizenga lost his reelection race to Democratic candidate Sean McCann, adding uncertainty to the future of the House Financial Services Committee’s digital assets subcommittee as the next Congress approaches.

The race was called for McCann on Nov. 4. Huizenga was vice chairman of the full committee and served on the subcommittee. Rep. Bryan Steil, who chaired the digital assets panel, also lost his seat.

Each Congress sets the subcommittee’s name, scope and membership anew. The next Congress could rename the panel, change its scope or dissolve it.

Huizenga and Steil both voted for the CLARITY Act when the House passed it in 2025. Fairshake named them among six lawmakers for whom it planned $1 million in support each, as detailed in [Fairshake’s 2026 House slate](<https://www.tokenpost.com/news/regulation/34436>).
