A survey of U.S. adults found 22% had ever owned or used cryptocurrency, offering a measure of past participation as lawmakers continue work on federal crypto rules.

The survey included 1,545 U.S. adults and was conducted Sept. 8-16, 2026. The reported figure was 24% among Republicans and 21% among Democrats, a three-percentage-point difference.

The measure covers people who had ever owned or used crypto; it does not establish current ownership or use. The full sample’s margin of sampling error was ±2.8 percentage points.

The House passed the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act 294-134 on July 17, 2025. On Sept. 15, 2026, the Senate rejected a procedural motion to advance the bill, 49-50; the vote was not on final passage.
