Republican losses in Tuesday’s election could ease political pressure on Federal Reserve Chair Warsh, giving him more room to focus on inflation as voter concern about living costs reshapes the debate.

Republicans suffered losses, while voters ranked living costs among their most important concerns. Those factors changed the political climate around the central bank.

Since winning reelection in 2024, Trump has repeatedly called for rate cuts. He also supported a criminal investigation into renovations at the Fed’s offices and tried to remove a sitting Fed governor.

Trump chose Warsh to lead the Fed in May. Warsh had previously shifted toward supporting rate cuts, prompting Democrats to worry that he might adjust monetary policy to match the president’s preferences.

New Century Advisors Chief Economist Claudia Sahm said the Fed may not need another rate increase if the election results prompt Trump to end the Iran conflict and abandon further tariff increases.
