Hong Kong plans to widen tax incentives for funds investing in digital assets and precious metals, a proposed change that would extend preferential treatment across more investment types and fund structures.

The proposed eligible investments would also include loans and private credit. The package would cover carried interest and extend the exemption system to sizable funds with a single investor.

The measures could take effect from the 2025-26 year of assessment if an amendment bill passes.

Separately, Hong Kong’s central gold clearing and settlement system is scheduled for formal launch in the first quarter of 2027. Trial operations began in July 2026. The system is designed to clear over-the-counter gold trades conducted to international standards.
