Switchboard Technology Labs Inc. deprecated its oracle implementations and urged affected protocols to migrate before technical support ends after Sept. 25, according to reports on the announcement.

Solana Compass identified Kamino Finance, Jito, MarginFi and Drift Protocol as Solana decentralized finance protocols that must move their oracle integrations. The report and a separate Crypto Briefing account listed Pyth Network and RedStone as alternative providers.

“Migration deadline: All implemented versions are deprecated as of today. Protocols relying on Switchboard must migrate immediately to other oracle providers. Technical support is available through September 25,” @SwitchboardFDN said in a statement reproduced by Solana Compass.

Oracle networks supply blockchain applications with external information, including asset prices. Crypto Briefing described Switchboard as a permissionless network that allowed users to create custom data feeds without gatekeeping.

At the time of the announcement, Switchboard was processing “hundreds of millions” of data requests each week and supporting more than 550 unique feeds across 53 distinct programs on Solana and 10 other chains, according to Solana Compass. Crypto Briefing said the network had operated on Solana, Aptos, Sui, IOTA and Movement.

The deprecation followed an earlier suspension outside Solana. Crypto Briefing reported that Switchboard halted operations on Aptos, Sui, IOTA and Movement around Aug. 29-30. Solana Compass dated the suspension to Aug. 29, attributed it to a suspected key compromise and said Solana feeds were unaffected at the time.

The reports attributed Switchboard’s decision to lower oracle-development costs enabled by artificial-intelligence tools, prolonged weakness in the crypto market and direct data partnerships that bypass intermediary oracle networks. Solana Compass cited Hyperliquid’s direct partnership with S&P as an example.

“AI has lowered the cost of building one's own oracle,” @SwitchboardFDN said, according to Solana Compass.

Moving to another provider may require smart-contract changes, testing and checks of the replacement feeds’ price accuracy and update frequency, Crypto Briefing said. Protocols that use niche or custom feeds may also need additional configuration when an equivalent feed is unavailable from Pyth Network or RedStone.

Solana Compass reported that Switchboard had raised $11.2 million, including a $7.5 million Series A led by Tribe Capital and RockawayX in May 2024. Affected protocols face Sept. 25 as the final day of technical support while they migrate their integrations.
