Cardano became an official chain for the x402 payment protocol as XRP gained about 24% over six days, marking separate developments in crypto payments and digital-asset markets.

The Cardano Foundation announced that the x402 Foundation had added a Cardano specification to its repository. Cardano’s developer portal lists the @x402/cardano package and describes x402 as a system for on-chain payments through websites and application programming interfaces.

The protocol uses HTTP status code 402, or “Payment Required,” to support pay-per-request services. Cardano’s documentation includes direct address payments, Masumi escrow and custom smart-contract payment methods, including use by AI agents.

XRP closed at $1.6094 on Sept. 23, up from $1.2959 on Sept. 17. The token reached an intraday high of $1.6532 on Sept. 23.

The Federal Reserve raised the federal funds target range by 25 basis points to 3.75%-4% on Sept. 16.
