Bitget halted withdrawals Thursday after reporting that roughly $351.6 million in assets had moved without authorization from portions of its hot- and warm-wallet systems, a loss that could make September the most damaging month for crypto exploits in 2026.

The exchange detected the transfers at 2:31 p.m. ET (18:31 UTC) and activated emergency response procedures within minutes, Bitget CEO Gracy Chen said. The company said its cold wallets remained secure, while deposits and trading continued to operate.

Bitget said its User Protection Fund held more than $464 million, covering the full amount of the affected assets. The exchange also identified and flagged abnormal addresses, notified law-enforcement agencies and engaged on-chain security firms.

The attack method has not been disclosed. Bitget said it would issue hourly updates and publish a full incident report within 24 hours.

Adding the estimated $351.6 million to previously reported exploit losses would put September’s total above $684 million, exceeding April’s approximately $646.9 million. The ranking may change as investigations continue and crypto databases are updated.
