# Bitget CEO Describes Preliminary Attack Path After Exchange Attack

Bitget CEO Gracy Chen said a preliminary review indicates the exchange’s attack may have involved a third-party software supply-chain compromise affecting a backend wallet system.

Chen said attackers may have breached a tool frequently used by Bitget and then interfered with a service that generated false transfer information. The service also invoked a signing machine to move funds, she said.

The incident was not caused by a private-key leak, and the possibility of insider involvement appeared low based on the review so far, Chen said. The final attack path has not been confirmed.

Chen added that major attacks can combine several techniques, including compromised signing processes, software vulnerabilities and social engineering. Bitget’s security team is continuing to investigate the root cause and address the issue.
