Bitget may suspend withdrawals for several hours to one or two days as it investigates an attack that affected assets in hot and warm wallets, CEO Gracy Chen said.

Chen said some of the attack IP addresses closely matched VPN patterns used by a North Korea-related group. She said Bitget cannot yet fully confirm the attackers’ identities, but described their methods as professional and suggested they may have monitored the exchange over an extended period.

The affected assets were mainly held in hot wallets. One wallet that appeared to be a cold wallet was actually a warm wallet, while Bitget’s cold wallets were not affected, Chen said.

Bitget’s protection fund exceeds $465 million and the exchange has more than $1 billion in its own funds, according to Chen. She said the company can handle concentrated withdrawals after services resume and rejected comparisons with FTX.

The exchange’s next step is to complete its investigation and determine when withdrawals can safely resume.
