Zano plans to roll back roughly 24 hours of blockchain history after an inflation bug linked to Gateway Addresses threatened activity involving ZANO and Confidential Assets.

The project told users on Sept. 25 to halt economic activity while it prepares the rollback. The change would remove potentially affected transactions as well as legitimate activity from the canonical chain.

Zano described the rollback as having “no other choice” and promised reimbursement for economic losses caused by the reversal. It has not disclosed the number of unauthorized coins involved, the exact rollback height, the reimbursement amount or a timetable for resuming activity.

Gateway Addresses are an account-based address type designed to simplify integrations with exchanges, bridges, decentralized exchanges and payment services. The feature became active at block 3,833,000 through Hard Fork 6 on Aug. 26.

Zano has also not publicly explained the vulnerable code path or released a postmortem. The network’s next concrete step is the planned rollback, but the project has not announced when it will occur.
