THORChain said Sept. 28 that its network interruption was an emergency security measure designed to protect the protocol, not a selective freeze of specific funds or an individual swap.

The protocol said the pause followed renewed scrutiny after a May 2026 security incident in which $10.7 million was stolen from liquidity pools. The attacker’s address was not blacklisted at the time and remained able to trade on THORChain.

THORChain is a permissionless blockchain protocol designed to operate without transaction censorship. The network interruption comes as its approach to blocking suspicious activity faces increased attention.
