Solana has lowered its target slot time to 250 milliseconds while keeping skipped-slot rates stable, but further reduction to 200 milliseconds before Alpenglow requires caution.

The network has gradually cut the target from 400 milliseconds to 250 milliseconds. The shorter interval also reduced periods of inactivity caused by consecutive skipped slots.

At the same time, voting latency increased. Nodes in Asia and South America experienced the largest effects.
