The XRP Ledger has passed 10 million payments through x402, a web-based payment protocol. AI agents paying for computing and data make up most of the activity.

The milestone came less than three months after the ledger passed 1 million x402 payments. Services using the protocol also include financial data, risk, credit and other application programming interfaces.

The payment count measures activity through the protocol. It does not show the total value transferred or establish how much demand the payments create for XRP. Available figures also do not provide a consistent daily transaction rate.

With x402, a service can respond to a web request with payment requirements. A client completes an on-chain payment and retries the request.

Ripple’s XRPL AI Starter Kit, announced June 9, added support for x402 payments on the XRP Ledger using XRP or Ripple USD (RLUSD). The implementation was contributed by t54.
