> The Oct. 2 announcement said nodes are monitoring the Zcash chain but gave no trading start time or pool-depth figure.

THORChain activated a Zcash (ZEC) pool as groundwork for native cross-chain swaps, while its Oct. 2, 2026, announcement placed trading as the next step and described liquidity as shallow.

The announcement said THORChain nodes are monitoring the Zcash chain. It provided no pool-depth figure or firm time for trading to begin.

THORChain’s protocol is designed to enable native cross-chain swaps without wrapped assets or bridges. The pool activation does not establish that direct Bitcoin (BTC)-to-ZEC swaps are available, and the launch details do not confirm whether swaps can send ZEC into or out of shielded addresses.

A March protocol upgrade added chain-specific unspent transaction output (UTXO) handling and remote procedure call (RPC) logic for Zcash, as well as ZEC support in THORChain’s price oracle. That work laid technical groundwork for the pool, while the October announcement identified trading as a later step.
