Zcash’s NU7 upgrade is scheduled to activate on its public testnet at block 4,465,026, creating a live trial of proposed changes to block timing, transaction fees and shielded activity ahead of any mainnet rollout.

The milestone is estimated around Oct. 6. NU7 would cut target block spacing from 75 seconds to 25 seconds and direct part of transaction fees into a reserve for future block rewards.

The upgrade also sets limits on shielded activity per block, including a shared budget of 330 actions across pools. It is supported in Zebra 7.0.0-rc.0, a release candidate of Zcash node software.

Testnet operators were advised to upgrade before the target block. Mainnet operators do not yet need to act, and no mainnet activation height has been set. The testnet milestone does not establish when the changes would reach the production network.
